Ethiopia’s Coffee Exports Hit Record $3 Billion, Government Sets $6 Billion Target for 2031

Addis Ababa | July 2026

Ethiopia’s coffee sector has reached a historic milestone, generating more than US$3 billion in export earnings during the 2025/26 fiscal year, up from approximately US$2.65 billion the previous year (Addis Standard). The achievement was announced by Minister of Agriculture Addisu Arega, who credited the collective efforts of farmers, cooperatives, exporters, investors, and government institutions across the coffee value chain (ENA).

Coffee now accounts for more than 30% of Ethiopia’s total export revenue (Perfect Daily Grind), reinforcing its position as the country’s leading foreign exchange earner. Building on this momentum, the government has launched a new five-year national coffee development programme aimed at raising average productivity from about 9 quintals per hectare to 21 quintals per hectare (Addis Standard), with officials projecting this could double export earnings to US$6 billion by 2031 (Perfect Daily Grind).

For Danka Coffee Export PLC, this national push toward higher yields and stronger quality standards aligns directly with our own sourcing priorities — traceable, high-grade green beans backed by a sector investing in its long-term productivity.
